Okechukwu Uwaezuoke Interviews Teju Cole

December 24th, 2009 by Sophy

Every Day is for the ThiefTeju ColeNaijablog alerts us to the following interview with up-and-coming Nigerian author Teju Cole (Every Day is for the Thief), which appeared in This Day.

Chuck Woody? That’s Chukwudi! It’s actually pronounced Choo-Quoo-Dee. They sound alike, don’t they? Trust Americans to mangle names beyond recognitions. Teju Cole, sitting across the table from me, should know. He should enough to think the hilarity of it all worth sharing with me. He has just finished a meat pie. Now, he is – or rather we both are – nursing canned bitter lemon drinks.

The late afternoon din of customers here at the Ojodu Berger’s Tantalizers eatery is tolerable enough for a chat. Our pre-interview chat temporarily swirls around Berlin experiences. We both swap our experiences of Berlin-Mitte and its familiar haunts.
