Alert! As was reported in the Sunday Independent at the start of the week, Switzerland-based Zimbabwean author Petina Gappah said she did not see herself as solely or specifically an “African writer” when accepting the Guardian First Book Award (which she won at the start of the month) – implying that “writer” alone will do just fine, thank you very much.
What are your thoughts on the “African writer” rubric?
(For those looking for material that previously appeared on this post, it’s been removed due to a misunderstanding. Sorry!)

Brava, Petina!
More fire to your song, more power to your pen.
