Alert! UK fantasy auteur célèbre Philip Pullman has joined the Oak Tree Fine Press stable with a limited edition of a new volume in his “Northern Lights” series, called À Outrance.
The proceeds from sales of the book – as from all Oak Tree Fine Press publications – “go to organisations assisting children living with or affected by HIV/AIDS“. In this case, said organisations are southern Africa-based.
À Outrance is available in limited quantities in several editions: there are 15 “art” editions which are part of an auction that ends on 21 Dec; a “deluxe” edition which costs £500.00; and a “Mohawk” edition which can be yours for £150.00. The press is also selling sets of the book’s woodcuts, for £295.00.
Pullman’s new story is about a bear fight to the death; more from the UK’s Telegraph:
Now Pullman is engaged in a similar venture to help children affected by HIV and Aids in southern Africa.
The book, called À Outrance – an old French term for a fight to the death – is an extract from Northern Lights describing the battle between two armoured bears, Iorek Byrnison and Iofur Raknison.
Only 265 of the books will be published – 15 of them unique copies created by some of the world’s leading bookbinders – through an initiative with Oak Tree Fine Press.
It raises money for HIV charities by publishing extracts of writers’ work, including JM Coetzee and John le Carré, in hand-crafted editions.
