Slam poet Farouk Asvat is the author of the acclaimed collections A Celebration of Flames (Ad. Donker, 1987) and The Time of Our Lives (Black Thoughts, 1982). Matsuli Music presents a video interview with Asvat, as well as a feature on a number of his collections:

He was nominated as an Amnesty International “Prisoner of Conscience” in the 1970s, and was also selected to represent South Africa in the 1980 “International Portland Review” of poetry.
