Alert! Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is in the running for the £5 000 John Llewellyn Rhys literary prize. The prize, founded 67 years ago, is awarded in honour of the writer John Llewellyn Rhys, who was killed in action during World War II. It’s presented for the best work of literature (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama) by a British Commonwealth author aged 35 or under.
Adichie’s The Thing Around Your Neck faces stiff competition for the gong (including from a Booker Prize winner); here’s more from the BBC:
Award-winning novelists Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Aravind Adiga will go head-to-head for this year’s John Llewellyn Rhys literary prize.
Adichie’s short story collection The Thing Around Your Neck is her first work since winning The Orange Prize in 2007 for Half of a Yellow Sun.
Aravind Adiga won the Booker Prize last year for his novel The White Tiger.
Good luck to Adichie!
