The New Yorker takes us into Ripley’s Believe it or Not territory. The future is here:BOOK-CLUB CONFIDENTIAL: LITERATE LADS OF LA-LA LAND
The secret proceedings of book clubs in the city and beyond.
THE CLUB: This Los Angeles-based club began in 2007, borne out of envy. Steven Kane: “One of our members was jealous of his wife’s book club and was determined to start his own. This was an excuse for a guys’ night out—and it’s wholesome, so the wives don’t complain.”
THE MEMBERS: The group consists of seven men, ranging in age from late thirties to late forties. Most members are writers or producers; one is a real-estate developer, while another describes himself as a “producer of television commercials segueing to a yoga instructor.”

This was fun, but my best New Yorker read of the day (courtesy of Arthur Attwell) is this absolute gem: http://www.newyorker.com/humor/2009/10/19/091019sh_shouts_weiner
Everyone who's ever written or marketed a book MUST read it!
