Alert! This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Caine Prize, one of Africa’s richest literary awards, given to the best short story published (in English) on the continent each year.
To celebrate, there’s a 10th-anniversary author tour happening in the UK - and now the Guardian has got into the act by publishing a new short story from Caine Prize shortlistee and freshly-minted novelist Chika Unigwe.
The story is called “Happy Independence Day” and is embedded as a Scribd.com document here:
Enjoy!

Great story, Chika. Hope you're enjoying the tour. (My first comment at SA Books- thanks Ben!)
