Alert! Ronelda S Kamfer and Loftus Marais have jointly received the 2009 Eugène Marais prize for poetry, for their debut digbundels, Noudat slapende honde and Staan in die algemeen nader aan vensters.
The award, considered one of the most prestigious in Afrikaans literature, is given by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns. The authors split the prize of R22 000, taking home R11 000 each.
BOOK SA is working the phones to get hold of the judges’ statement – check back soon for that.
Meanwhile, congratulations to Kamfer and Marais!
